BBC Adaptation; The Reinchenbach Fall Transcript


BBC Adaptation; Sherlock, The Reinchenbach Fall. Transcript of Dialogue between Sherlock Holmes and Jim Moriarty. (68.22mins – 77.20mins within the episode)

JM: Well (1.0) Here we are at last (3.0) You and me Sherlock (.) And our problem (.) The final problem (2.0) staying alive (4.0) It’s so boring, isn’t it? (3.0) it’s just (1.0) staying (1.0) All my life I’ve been searching for distractions and you were the best distraction and now I don’t even have you (.) Cause I’ve beaten you (2.0) And you know what (.) In the end it was easy (4.0) it was easy (.) now I’ve got to go back to playing with the ordinary people (,) And it turns out you’re ordinary just like all of them (5.0) oh well (7.0) Did you almost start to wonder if I was real? (2.0) Did I nearly get ya?
SH: Richard Brooke.
JM: Nobody seems to get the joke (2.0) But you do.
SH: Of course.
JM: That a boy.
SH: Rich Brooke in German is Reinchenbach (.) The case that made my name.
JM:  Just trying to have some fun (7.0)  Good (.) You got that too.
SH:  [Drums out beats behind back]                                             Beats like digits (.) Every beat is a one (.) Every rest is a zero (1.0) Binary code (.) That’s why all those assassins tried to save my life (.) It was hidden on me (.) Hidden inside my head (.) a few simple lines of computer code that can break into any system.
JM: Told all my clients (.) last one to Sherlock is a sissy.
SH: Yes, but now that it’s up here I can use it to alter all the records (3.0) I can kill Rich Brooke and bring back Jim Moriarty.
JM: No (1.0) no no no no (.) This is too easy (.) This is too easy (.) There is no key Doofas (4.0) Those digits are meaningless (1.0) They’re utterly meaningless (.) You don’t really think (.) a couple of lines of computer code are gonna crash the world around our ears I’m disappointed (.) I’m disappointed in you (mocking) ordinary Sherlock.
SH: But the rhythm.
JM: Partita Number One (.) Thank-you Johan Sebastian Bach.
SH: Then how  did you
JM:                 Then how  did I break into the bank, to the tower, to the prison? (.) Daylight robbery (.) All it takes is some willing participants (7.0) I knew you’d fall for it (.) That’s your weakness (.) You always want everything to be clever (.) Now, shall we finish the game? (1.0) One final act (.) Glad you chose a tall building (.) Nice way to do it.
SH: Do it? Do what? (3.0) Yes of course (2.0) My suicide.
JM: Genius detective proved to be a fraud (.) I read it in the papers so it must be true (.) I love newspapers (1.0) fairy tales (3.0) And pretty grim ones too.
SH: I can still prove that you created an entirely false identity.
JM: Oh just kill yourself it’s a lot less effort (2.0) Go on (.) For me (2.0) Please?
SH: You’re insane
JM: You’re just getting that now? (3.0) Okay (2.0) Let me give you a little extra incentive (2.0) Your friends will die if you don’t.
SH: John?
JM: Everyone.
SH: Mrs Hudson?
JM: Everyone.
SH: Lestrade?
JM: Three bullets (.) Three gunmen (.) Three victims (.) There’s no stopping them now (1.0) unless my people see you jump (6.0) You can have me arrested (.) You can torture me (.) You can do anything you like with me but nothing is going to prevent them from pulling the trigger (.) Your only three friends in the world will die (.) Unless
SH: I kill myself (.) complete your story.
JM: You gotta admit (.) that’s sexier.
SH: And I die in disgrace.
JM: Well, of course, that’s the point of this (.) Go on (.) You’ve got an audience now (1.0) Off you pop (1.0) Go on (1.0) I told you how this ends (1.0) Your death is the only thing that is going to call off the killers (.) I’m certainly not going to do it.
SH: Will you give me (.) one moment (.) please? (1.0)One moment of privacy (.) Please?
JM: Of course
SH: [Laughs]
JM: What? (1.0)What is it? (1.0)What did I miss?
SH: You’re not going to do it (.) So the killers can be called off it (.) There’s a recall code or a word or a number (1.0) I don’t have to die (1.0) if I’ve got you.
JM: Oooh (.) You think you can make me stop the order? You think you can make me do that?
SH: Yes (.) So do you.
JM: Sherlock. Your big brother and all the kings’ horses couldn’t make me do a thing I didn’t want to.
SH: Yes (.) But I’m not my brother remember (1.0) I am you (.) prepared to do anything (1.0) prepared to burn (1.0) prepared to do what ordinary people won’t do (1.0) You want me to shake hands with you in hell I shall not disappoint you.
JM: Nah (.) You talk big (.) Nah (.) You’re ordinary (.) You’re ordinary (.) You’re on the side of the angels.
SH: Oh, I may be on the side of the angels but don’t think for one second that I am one of them.
JM: No (.) You’re not (7.0) I see (2.0) You’re not ordinary (.) No (2.0) You’re me (.) You’re me (1.0) Thank-you (.) Sherlock Holmes (10.0) Thank-you (1.0) Bless you (3.0) As long as I’m alive you can save your friends (.) You’ve got a way out (3.0) Well, good luck with that. [Shoots himself]
