Question One

In reference to the two transcripts separately, who do you believe has the higher ratio of power in each?

  1. In 'A Game of Shadows', Sherlock appears to have a higher ratio throughout the conversation. He says he stuidied Moriarty and he seems to have predicted what Moriarty was going to do/say, therefore appearing to have the upper hand.
In 'The Reichenbach Fall', however, it seems from reading it that Moriarty has more power. He mimics Sherlock throughout their conversation and he seemed to know what Sherlock was going to say. Even though he killed himself, he had the upper hand because it prevented Sherlock's plan.

  2. In Reichenbach Fall, it seems that Moriarty had the upper hand purely because he was always one step ahead of Sherlock and as Katie said, he knew what he was going to say and knew how it was going to end. Like the numbers, he knew that Sherlock would dwell on it and therefore would keep his mind off other possibilities.
In a Game of Shadows, I feel that it is a even match as they both seem to be equals as depicted by the chess game. But at times, Sherlock had the upper hand as he realised what Moriarty was going to do.

  3. In 'A Game of Shadows' it appears that Sherlock has the higher ratio of power due to the language he uses and the situation of the chess game. However, this higher power ratio doesnt seem to be really noticeable as 'JM' appears to have a reply for all of Sherlock's comments and sometimes it sounds like he just chooses to ignore Sherlock's questions.
Within 'The Reichenbach Fall' 'JM' appears to have more control of the situation. He has more dialogue and appears to mock Sherlock when he does speak.
